AppliedSensor Provides Hydrogen Sensors for
GM’s Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell Vehicles

HSS-440 Module Premieres at Hydrogen Expo US, Sacramento, CA

Warren, New Jersey – March 31, 2008 AppliedSensor today announced that its HSS-440 hydrogen gas safety module has been incorporated by General Motors into the more than 100  GM Chevrolet Equinox Fuel Cell vehicles that have been delivered to customers in GM’s Project Driveway, the first market test of fuel cell vehicles. AppliedSensor will premiere its hydrogen detection sensors at the Hydrogen Expo US, March 30 thru April 1, in Sacramento, California.

The AppliedSensor HSS-440 hydrogen detection modules are mounted in several areas in the Equinox Fuel Cell vehicle. The modules detect hydrogen gas leaks at levels far below the established lower explosion limit of four percent in-air and incorporate high-performance sensing based on advancements in Field Effect (FE) technology that were designed specifically for fuel cell and hydrogen-powered vehicles.

“We share GM’s strong commitment to developing the technology that will facilitate the acceptance of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles as sustainable transportation,” said Tom Aiken, AppliedSensor Director of Marketing and Business Development. “Our hydrogen detection sensors help ensure that the Equinox Fuel Cell vehicles are safe and reliable.”

This is the second integration of the HSS-440 by a major vehicle manufacturer. Last March, AppliedSensor announced that its HSS-440 was being incorporated in the BMW Hydrogen 7, the first hydrogen-driven luxury performance automobile being built by BMW in a limited series and deployed to select users.

AppliedSensor provides chemical sensor solutions for air quality, safety, comfort and control. The company brings its expertise in chemical sensor systems to a broad range of industries and applications, including indoor air quality, automotive air quality, and hydrogen gas sensing. AppliedSensor operates facilities in Sweden, Germany and the United States.
